The School of Law of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law has a history of 71 years, during which it has experienced several rounds of national adjustments. Its origin could be traced back to School of Political Science and Law of Zhongyuan University, which was founded in 1952. In 1953, Zhongnan Institute of Politics and Law was established on the basis of merging with departments of Hunan University, Sun Yat-sen University and Guangxi University. In 1958, Zhongnan Institute of Politics and Law and other three institutes formed Hubei University. In the following two decades, Hubei University was renamed Hubei Institute of Finance and Economics and in 1984, Zhongnan Institute of Politics and Law was reestablished and administrated by Ministry of Justice. In 2000, it merged with Zhongnan University of Finance and Economics and the institute became the present Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.
